A few minutes down the road, there’s an old blue metal quarry that the Wilson family worked for over a hundred years.

Today it’s 39 hectares of gardens, with two lakes sitting where the stone used to come out. Basalt Lake still has its sheer cliff face. Climb the Hoo Hoo Lookout on a clear morning and you’ll see why the locals keep it a bit quiet.

Pack a thermos and take the long loop around Anniversary Lake. There are plenty of reasons people put down roots around here, and this is one of them.

Picture it on a Sunday in late autumn.

The home sits up near the street, behind the stone walls. It’s timber and stone, two storeys, with the big windows turned north and the afternoon sun coming through the living room. Out the back there’s a pool and a stretch of lawn, and then the rest of the acre carries on behind you.

Past the garden, the land opens into the trees and down to the dam. It’s somewhere for the kids to look for yabbies and for the dog to find before you do. Put a bench there and you’ll catch the evening light on the water. The established gums stay as they are, so your nearest neighbour out the back is mostly birdlife.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us on Saturday. With perfect weather, delicious pizza, face painting and giant games, it was a wonderful afternoon spent bringing people together.

It was especially lovely to meet future residents of Acre Ridge alongside members of our local community, all enjoying the estate and getting a feel for what’s taking shape here.

Thank you for being part of the day and helping make it such a success. We loved seeing May Road filled with conversation, laughter and a little glimpse of the community to come.

A pizza at Bellevue Farmgate.

The kids disappear towards the tractor rides. You wander through the orchard, pick up some fresh fruit and perhaps stay for a c***r. There are plenty of ways to spend a Sunday around Beaconsfield. This is one of our favourites.
