"It's the closest I have gotten to a real family dynamic."
That is how one young person described their experience with Burdekin. Supported through their hardest moments, they are now studying Social Work to help others in the same position.

Every gift you give this EoFY helps make that kind of transformation possible. Before 30 June, choose a gift that changes a young person's future.

Weโ€™re incredibly grateful to have received a thoughtful donation from the Pins and Needles knitting group in Dee Why ๐Ÿ’™

Their members lovingly created beautiful blankets for our young people, along with toiletries bags that were shared with our clients. These handmade items provide comfort, support wellbeing, and show our young people that they are valued and cared for within their community.

Thank you for your kindness and ongoing support, it truly makes a difference.

Weโ€™re always appreciative of the support we receive from our community, which strengthens our ability to walk alongside young people as they build on their strengths, pursue their goals, and thrive.

The Federal Government has announced a new Children and Family Support (CaFS) Program, commencing 1 July 2027.

Five existing family and children programs will consolidate into a single national funding stream, with a focus on prevention, early intervention and reduced red tape for frontline organisations.

For existing providers like Burdekin, applications for the new program will generally be open to current funded services. Applications are expected to open in mid-2026.

We will continue to watch this space and share updates as they become available.

For more information visit:

During National Reconciliation Week, and in the week of National Sorry Day, we were grateful for the opportunity to come together, reflect, and connect.

We shared a special evening at the Burdekin NRW BBQ, hosted in partnership with Kinchela Boys Home Aboriginal Corporation. Our staff and young people had the privilege of meeting Uncles, listening to stories, and celebrating culture together in a space grounded in connection, respect and learning.

It was a meaningful opportunity to deepen our understanding and acknowledge the history and ongoing impact of the Stolen Generations.

Thank you to KBH for your generosity in hosting us and for creating such a welcoming and powerful space. It was a truly special evening, and one we wonโ€™t forget.

We were also honoured to attend the opening of the Coolamon Arts Hubโ€™s inaugural exhibition. It was both powerful and deeply moving, offering a thoughtful reflection on truth-telling and resilience. ๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿ’›โค๏ธ

Big news for housing in Australia.

The Federal Government has announced changes to investor tax concessions, a step that advocates, frontline workers and community organisations have been calling for over many years.

At Burdekin, we see every day what happens when young people can't access safe, affordable housing. We welcome any reform that moves us closer to a system that works for everyone.

But we also know the work isn't done. More social housing, properly funded services, and long-term commitment from all levels of government are still urgently needed.
We'll keep showing up for the young people who need it most, and standing alongside the sector as we push for the change they deserve.

The federal governmentโ€™s historic step forward on winding back investor tax breaks marks a turning point for housing fairness and affordability but it must be [โ€ฆ]
