Today marks the beginning of National Reconciliation Week. Reconciliation Australia

This year’s theme, “All In,” is a reminder that reconciliation is a shared responsibility, one that requires all of us to listen, learn, and take meaningful steps forward.

At Burdekin, we are committed to creating safe, supportive spaces where young people feel seen, heard, and connected. We recognise and value the strength, resilience, culture and knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and the importance of continuing to learn and listen.

We encourage everyone to get involved in activities within their local communities, and to take time to reflect on the role we each play in reconciliation.

Reconciliation is not a moment, it’s an ongoing journey we walk together.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing simple ways you can get involved and make a meaningful impact.

Everyone deserves a safe place to call home.

Homelessness Nsw is calling on the NSW Government to increase funding for specialist homelessness services by 50% and invest further in social housing through the A Place to Call Home campaign.

At Burdekin, we see every day how vital housing support services are for young people in our communities.

📢 You can help advocate for change by contacting your local state representative.

Learn more about the campaign here:

With suitable and affordable social housing and properly funded specialist services, we can make homelessness rare, brief, and non-recurring.

From mentoring and movie nights to handmade birthday cakes, every act of kindness helps young people feel seen, supported and valued.

Big news for young people across Australia.

The 2026-27 Federal Budget has committed almost $60 million over four years to address the Youth Housing Penalty, a system that has long made it harder for young people to access safe, stable housing.

Burdekin has been a proud signatory of the Home Time Campaign, standing alongside over 180 organisations calling for exactly this change. We are so proud to have played our part.

This victory belongs to the young people who kept telling their stories, and to everyone who refused to accept that youth homelessness is just the way things are.

There is still more work to do. But today, we celebrate.

Our volunteers share their time, skills and care with young people, whether it’s helping someone gain confidence behind the wheel, build everyday living skills, or simply offering connection and support.

Over the past year, more than 1,400 volunteer hours have helped create stronger, more stable futures for young people.

💙 Thank you for everything you give.

There are so many ways to get involved this May.

On 24 May, the Bayside Run Festival, along the foreshore through Sandringham, Ramsgate Beach, Brighton-Le-Sands and Kyeemagh is bringing people together for a great day of movement and community.

If you're taking part, you can also choose to support young people through Burdekin and help make a real difference. 💙
