If you haven't already, meet Lyn!

Lyn has been a familiar and much loved presence in Googong since arriving in 2014, known for her genuine kindness and willingness to get involved. She brings a quiet energy to the community, the kind that brings people together and makes things happen.

From community events to local groups, Lyn is always nearby, offering support and pitching in wherever she can. She’s played an active role in both the Googong Residents Association and Neighbourhood Watch, and more recently has taken the lead at the Googong Community Garden, helping it grow into a welcoming, shared space.

It’s the small, consistent things Lyn does that make the biggest difference, lending a hand, checking in on others, or simply being someone people can rely on. She’s a big part of what makes Googong feel so special.

Can you bee-lieve it? 🐝 To celebrate World Bee Day, the Googong township entry has been lit up yellow in honour of the tiny pollinators that play such a big role in our environment.

Googong and the surrounding Canberra region are home to a thriving ecosystem of pollinators, with more than 200 native bee species alongside butterflies, wasps, and honeybees all helping to support healthy landscapes, local biodiversity, and the growth of native plants.

From our streetscapes and parks to the surrounding bushland, our green spaces, with select plantings, provide important habitat and food sources for these busy bees.

Thank you to our Googong community for the strong turnout, as we came together to honour ANZAC Day for the Dawn Service at the township memorial. It was wonderful to see so many people gather to remember and reflect on the service and sacrifice of those who served, past and present.

We extend our sincere thanks to all who attended and contributed to the service, including our volunteers, schools, speakers and community groups. Your collective efforts help ensure this important tradition continues each year.

Lest we forget.

If you didn't catch it in our recent Googonian Gazette, meet Greg!

Greg Leahy is the friendly face behind some of Googong's best-kept lawns and gardens — but his impact stretches far beyond the neighbourhood.

Greg is the driving force behind the Solomon Nursing Project, a grassroots initiative funding vital improvements to a rural health clinic in the remote Solomon Islands. Through collecting 10¢ return-and-earn cans and bottles — with the generous support of locals from Googong, Jerrabomberra, and Queanbeyan, Greg has helped install rainwater tanks, secure the clinic, purchase a rescue boat, and provide lighting so babies no longer have to be delivered by torchlight.

Whether he's mowing lawns or collecting cans, Greg is always giving back. A true local legend!

The Yellow Box at Hamson Reserve has been a defining feature of this landscape for many years. When the tree naturally died, rather than remove it, we commissioned celebrated sculptor Shane Christensen to transform the standing trunk into a lasting work of public art.

The result is 'Found Home' - a family of Glossy Black Cockatoos carved into the timber, finding a place to nest and raise their young. A moment that will resonate with many Googong families. The retained trunk will continue to provide valuable habitat for local wildlife, ensuring the tree contributes to its environment long after its life has ended.
