In this video, we explain one of the most overlooked financial issues when downsizing — how Centrelink may treat the money released from the sale of your home.

Your principal home is generally exempt from the Centrelink assets test, but once you sell, the proceeds may be treated differently.

Some funds intended for your next home may qualify for a temporary exemption, while surplus money may become assessable and could affect your pension under the assets test or income test.
