It’s hard to believe we’re already halfway through the year. ⏳

Life moves quickly, and in between work, family, and everyday responsibilities, important legal documents are often pushed aside for “later.” But circumstances can change sooner than we expect, and outdated documents can create unnecessary stress, confusion, and disputes down the track.

A mid-year legal check is a good opportunity to review whether your will, estate planning documents, property matters, or agreements still reflect your current situation and intentions.

The sooner these matters are reviewed and updated, the better protected you and your loved ones may be moving forward. ⚖️

If you are unsure where to start or need assistance reviewing your legal documents, our team is here to help guide you through the process.

What an incredible result! 💛☕🎉

Thanks to the generosity and support of our team, clients, friends, and community, we are proud to share that we raised a total of $1,000 for Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea this year.

Every donation, raffle ticket, sweet treat, and contribution helped support the vital work being done for Australians impacted by cancer. 💛

We would also like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful Year 9 students from Bayview College, Jess, Shiphrah, Zahi, Sofia, and Varli, for their enthusiasm and assistance in helping make the event such a success. A sincere thank you as well to Ms Emma Lovell from Bayview College for helping coordinate and arrange the students’ involvement. 🌟

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated, donated, and contributed to the day. It was wonderful to come together for an important cause and make a meaningful difference, one cup of tea at a time.

👀 Swipe through for a behind-the-scenes look at the smiles, treats, and memorable moments that made this year’s Biggest Morning Tea so special! 📸✨

“I would recommend Alex O’Donohue and Stratus Legal Group for any legal matter…” 👀

Being recommended like this comes down to more than just legal knowledge, it is about how clients are supported through some of the most stressful and uncertain moments in their lives.

Alex O’Donohue played a key role in guiding the client through a complex Will dispute, providing clear advice, patience, and consistent support whenever questions arose. His approach focuses on making difficult legal situations feel more manageable and ensuring clients always feel heard and informed.

We truly appreciate feedback like this, it means a lot to the team to know our work is making a real difference for our clients and their peace of mind. 🤍

Client walks in after a dispute has escalated, hoping it can all just be “fixed quickly” with a few simple steps. 👀⚖️

Suddenly, the lawyer becomes a wizard 🧙‍♂️ making complaints disappear, a therapist 🛋️ handling the emotions, a detective 🕵️‍♂️ uncovering details, and a referee 🥊 settling who’s “right.”

In reality, it’s about strategy, careful thinking, and guiding clients through complex and often emotional situations with practical, solution-focused legal advice.

And honestly… no two days (or clients) are ever the same.

Which “role” surprised you the most? 😄

What actually counts as a de facto relationship in Australia? 👀

There’s no single clear-cut definition. Each case is assessed on its own facts, and courts have wide discretion in deciding the outcome.

Judges look at key factors like the length of the relationship, living arrangements, financial setup, and how the couple presents themselves publicly.

And the “two-year rule” is a common misconception. A de facto relationship can still be recognised in shorter relationships, especially if there is a child involved or where one party has made significant contributions and would face hardship without a court order.

This is why financial agreements, similar to prenups, are increasingly used to help clarify expectations and reduce risk if a relationship breaks down.

Because outcomes can vary depending on the facts, seeking tailored legal advice is essential for clarity and protection.

How can something as simple as a fence turn into a full-blown dispute? 👀

It often starts small, a boundary fence gets replaced, there’s disagreement over where the exact property line sits, or confusion about who is responsible for the cost. What should be a straightforward conversation between neighbours can quickly escalate into stress, delays, and ongoing tension.

Boundary and fencing disputes are more common than most people realise, and they can become overwhelming fast when rights, responsibilities, and expectations aren’t clearly understood.

That’s where the right legal support can help. Our property law team assists clients in understanding their rights, navigating neighbour disputes, and working toward practical, resolution-focused outcomes without unnecessary conflict.

If a fencing issue is becoming more than just a “quick chat with the neighbour,” you can get in touch here: https://www.stratuslegal.com.au/contact/ 🏡
