Why does it matter?
✔️ Proper permits can help ensure the work meets safety and building standards.
✔️ Professionally completed renovations may reduce the risk of hidden issues popping up later.
✔️ Quality work can protect your investment and resale value.

That said, privately completed renovations aren’t always a red flag either. Some homeowners do incredible work themselves and take exceptional care in the process (sometimes even more carefully than large-scale flippers)! The key is doing your homework:
Ask questions.
Review receipts and permits.
Look at workmanship details.
And work with a realtor who knows what to look for behind the cosmetic upgrades.
