Fall workshop planning is in full swing! I’ll be at Vince’s in Sharon October 7 & 8, guiding guests as they create their own Thanksgiving centrepiece.

Tickets will be available soon, so be sure to stay tuned!

I know it’s been quiet over here for a while, but I’m so grateful to get back into the swing of things with tomorrow’s lavender & white wedding. There’s just something about this palette that I just love. 💜🤍

Although I’m currently taking a break from new bookings for wedding and event florals, fall and winter workshop updates will be happening soon!

Planter install today in Stouffville, and wanted to show this driveway border garden I did a few years ago. A row of armour stone, Veronica (I think Blue Skywalker, but truthfully can’t remember), and Northwind switchgrass (my favourite, I just planted eight at my own house) create a vertical divide between very close asphalt strips.

Although the flowers haven’t opened yet, and the grasses still have about two feet to grow, they’re looking good for early in the season.

Love to see the spaces I created once they establish. 💚

It’s not a Planted By Peter garden without Northwind Switchgrass (Panicum virgatum).

Steel blue green leaves that turn golden in the fall, stay dense and upright (even all winter), and have delicate, wispy seed heads. There’s a reason this is my absolute favourite ornamental grass to use in garden designs. 💙

I would never leave 💚

When I say I’m “in a mood”, this is what I mean.

Contrasting burgundy begonias, chartreuse club moss, and caladium and coleus with both those striking tones = dramatic matching patio planters.

Once the Appleblossom impatiens start to bloom, these pots are going to truly pop in the shade. 😎

Summer planter season is here!

I always start the season with my personal planters. With due-west exposure, I get full afternoon sun that make tropical plants thrive.

Although I’m tremendously limiting the amount of client jobs I’m taking on, here are a few tips on creating your own arrangements.

Remember these three words:
Thriller, Filler, and Spiller

Thrillers are your focal plant. Something that stands tall above the rest of the design. I often use Majesty palms, cannas and banana for sun, and Cat palms for shadier spots. This year, I’m using braided peach hibiscus standards for a colourful option.

Fillers are your low-mid height plants that fill the space around the top of your planter. Dense plants are best for this, and with my exposure, dipladenia and croton are annual must-haves. They thrive in heat and bright sunlight.

Spillers, as you might’ve guessed, spill over the edge of the pots. As they grow, ivy in the front will trail down to the driveway, and vibrant Creeping Jenny fill in gaps in the back, brightening and draping the sides of my planters.

As always, all my summer annuals and tropicals are supplied by in Markham.

Half of today’s harvest 💛

This sudden spike in temperatures (and my absence) made for a sudden burst of opening blooms. Subscribers will get a few extra stems this week as their subscription comes to an end for the season.

Today’s harvest: Tom Pouce.

Probably my favourite variety of tulip. Tall, straight stems; slender, close-lying foliage; and a beautiful blend of yellow and pink petals.

Named after a cake, so of course it has to be good. 😉
