What will CarePoint South actually look like?

The planned 120-bed emergency shelter in south Edmonton will operate 24/7, with meals, health services, recovery coaching, housing support, and transportation to other services.

The Girard Road facility will also become home to a new central kitchen.

Hope Mission's thrift store has a new name and a new home: the Next Step Thrift Store, now open at 4210 - 99 Street NW.

This is a soft launch. There's no road sign up yet, so watch for the "Come in, we're open" sign in the window. Inside, it's the same racks of clothing, shelves of glassware and collectibles, shoes, toys, and household finds Edmontonians have shopped for years.

Next Step Thrift Store provides youth with real-life work experience and mentorship. Every purchase makes a difference for vulnerable kids and families in Edmonton, including those supported at the Tegler Youth Centre.

Open Monday to Saturday, 9am to 7pm. Mark your calendars: our official grand opening celebration is October 17. Stop by this week. Directions in the comments.

CarePoint South is planned as a 120-bed, 24/7 emergency shelter in south Edmonton.

As a youth, it can be hard to land that first job. Because of your support, two youth from our Tegler Youth Centre spent the summer gaining first-time job skills by working in the Hope Mission food truck: taking orders, handling cash, and serving customers at markets and community events, plus dishing out free meals at our day camps.

For Dawson, it changed how he shows up every day. "I feel more confident in what I do day to day because of this job," he says. "Now I wake up, get ready for work, and feel like I have something meaningful ahead of me."

Thank you for supporting the truck this summer and making moments like this possible.

Edmonton city council has approved the rezoning application for CarePoint South.

That’s an important milestone. Now comes the work of securing capital funding and permits, completing renovations, and preparing the shelter to operate well.

Our goal is to open the additional 120 spaces as soon as possible next winter.

Edmonton city council has approved the rezoning of the site for Hope Mission’s CarePoint South, a new 120-bed shelter in the Girard Industrial area.

Shelter demand rose by 23% this past winter alone, and this is an important step toward having more shelter capacity ready for next winter.
