Established by the late Larry Anderson and Burke Perry, the newly renamed BILD Edmonton Metro Trade Scholarship Endowment Fund — originally the ERHC Trade Scholarship Fund — was created to bring industry leadership and philanthropy together to support students pursuing careers in the skilled trades and homebuilding industry.
For many aspiring tradespeople, the financial realities of post-secondary education can make it difficult to step away from work and invest in their training. This fund helps remove some of those barriers, creating more opportunities for students to pursue their education and build rewarding careers in the trades.
And the need is significant. Alberta is expected to need 49,000 additional skilled trade workers over the next decade.
As the fund continues to grow, so does its potential to create pathways into the industry and strengthen the workforce that builds the places we call home.
Today, the fund has grown to more than $800,000, providing 14–18 scholarships each year to students pursuing careers in the trades. This is Larry Anderson’s legacy in action — planting trees that will provide shade and fruit for generations to come.
