1. How did you determine the size of my move?

A good estimate should be based on more than a bedroom count.

Furniture, boxes, storage areas, garages, basements, outdoor items and access can all change the amount of truck space, crew and time required.

2. What crew and equipment are you recommending?

Ask how many movers are included.

Ask how many trucks are planned.

Ask whether the crew will arrive with the protection and equipment needed for your move.

Two companies can quote very different hourly rates because they may be planning very different jobs.

3. What happens if the move is larger or more complicated than expected?

Maybe there is more inventory than originally listed.

Maybe access is tighter.

Maybe furniture needs more disassembly.

Maybe the elevator or loading area slows things down.

One of the easiest ways to improve your moving experience is to give your mover a complete picture of the job before moving day.

That includes more than just the furniture in the main rooms.

Things that can materially affect a move include:

• Basements and storage rooms
• Garages and sheds
• Large or unusually heavy items
• Stairs
• Elevators
• Long carries
• Tight hallways or doorways
• Furniture that needs disassembly
• Appliances
• Items requiring extra protection
• Limited parking or loading access

Why does this matter?

Because those details affect the crew size, truck space, equipment and time required.

If important information is missing, even a carefully prepared estimate can end up being too small.
