Applications open for Nova Scotia Seniors Care Grant

Nova Scotia seniors can now apply for a grant to help with health-care and household costs.

The annual Seniors Care Grant provides up to $750 for eligible seniors.

The province says the money can help cover costs such as home heating, yard work, meal preparation, grocery and prescription medication deliveries, phone service and more.

Other eligible services include physiotherapy, foot care, mental health support, house cleaning, laundry, internet service, small home repairs and snow removal.

People 65 and older with a household income of up to $45,100 are eligible.

The program launched in 2021.

The province says more than 173,000 grants have been provided since then.

“Our government created the Seniors Care Grant to help seniors afford the care and services that they need to continue to maintain their independence and live well in their communities,” said Barbara Adams, Minister of Seniors and Long-Term Care.

Adams is encouraging all eligible seniors to apply.

Applications can be submitted online, by mail or through a printed application.

Printed applications are available at Access Nova Scotia centres or by calling 1-800-670-4357.

The deadline to apply is December 1.

Seniors who are signed up for direct deposit with the Canada Revenue Agency will receive the money through direct deposit.

Other eligible applicants will receive payment by cheque.

Update from the bank of Canada:

The Bank of Canada has announced no change in the overnight rate. The overnight rate will remain at 2.25% with the bank prime rate at 4.45%

The Bank of Canada held its policy rate at 2.25% today, as expected, as policymakers continue to assess a complex and uncertain economic backdrop. While inflation remains near target, recent increases in oil prices tied to geopolitical tensions have added new uncertainty to the outlook.

With economic growth still modest and underlying inflation pressures contained, the Bank is choosing to remain on the sidelines for now. Ongoing volatility in energy markets and continued global trade uncertainty are clouding the path forward, leaving the Bank focused on incoming data before making any further policy decisions.

The next Bank of Canada announcement is on June 10th, 2026.
