Fernie Mountain House is made for gathering.

While many people know us as a place to stay in Fernie, BC, the house also works beautifully for small private events, retreats and group gatherings where everyone can actually be together in one space.

We’ve hosted some memorable events here over the years, including a fashion show with Klassique Designs, photographed by Matt Kuhn, with Victor Spicer joining us as private chef.

It was a great example of what works well at the house: good food, creative people, plenty of room to gather, and a mountain backdrop that does a fair bit of the decorating for you.

With a large open kitchen and living area, floor-to-ceiling windows, accommodation right on site and space for guests to move between dining, conversation and activities, Fernie Mountain House feels very different from a traditional event venue.

There’s a short window every fall when Fernie turns gold. 🌲💛

Larch season has arrived in the Canadian Rockies, bringing bright golden colour to the mountainsides around Fernie, BC. From late September into October, the larches begin their annual change from green to gold before dropping their needles for winter.

It’s one of our favourite times to be in Fernie.

Hike or bike the Montane trails, explore Mount Fernie Provincial Park, walk along the Elk River, or simply look up from town and watch the colour creep across the mountains. Fall is also still a great time for fly fishing, exploring Fernie’s historic downtown, grabbing a coffee or settling in somewhere warm after a day outside.

And then there’s Fernie Mountain House.

Come back from a cool fall day, warm up in the sauna, take a dip in the hot tub, brave the cold plunge, and settle in for an evening surrounded by the mountains you spent the day exploring.

When you’re travelling with a big group, having a place where everyone can actually sit down together makes a difference. The dining table seats 14, with additional seating nearby at the kitchen island, so there’s room for the whole group to gather for dinner, linger over breakfast or map out the next day’s adventures.

It’s a space made for the moments in between everything else. Big family dinners, a few too many dishes on the table, stories from the day and conversations that carry on long after everyone has finished eating.

🚵 Mountain biking in Fernie is hard to beat.

With an extensive network of trails running throughout the Elk Valley, there’s no shortage of ways to spend a day on two wheels. Ride through forested singletrack, take on a bigger climb, or head higher into the mountains.

Fernie has trails for a wide range of riders, from relaxed valley routes to technical descents and alpine adventures. And with the fall riding season here, cooler days and quieter trails make it a great time to get out and explore. 🏔️

After a full day of riding, head back to Fernie Mountain House to clean up the bikes at the warm-water bike wash, relax in the private Nordic spa and start planning tomorrow’s route.

🌅 Fernie knows how to end the day.

As the sun starts to drop behind the mountains, the views around Fernie Mountain House put on a pretty good show. The peaks catch the last of the light, the sky changes by the minute, and suddenly nobody is in much of a hurry to head inside.

The nice thing is, you don’t have to go anywhere to enjoy it. With mountain views from both the front and back of the house, there are plenty of places to take it all in. Settle into an Adirondack chair on the deck, stay a little longer in the hot tub, or watch the colours change through the floor-to-ceiling windows in the Great Room.

After a full day of exploring Fernie, this is a pretty good way to wind down. 🏔️
