🚨 Rabies Alert Issued in British Columbia 🚨

A skunk that tested positive for rabies has been identified in B.C.’s Kootenay Lake region, prompting health officials to warn residents to stay vigilant.

Authorities are asking anyone who had contact with a skunk in the area since mid-August to come forward for assessment. While human rabies cases are extremely rare in Canada, the disease is almost always fatal once symptoms develop.

Health officials stress that prompt medical treatment after a bite or scratch can prevent infection. Pet owners are also being urged to ensure their animals are vaccinated and to keep them away from wildlife.

Experts remind the public never to approach wild animals that appear sick, disoriented, unusually aggressive, or unafraid of people.
