7 years ago I took on one of the biggest challenges.
I auditioned for a play after years of taking a break from acting.
I got the lead!
The play opened up with me alone on stage doing a monologue. It had been so long since I had done anything like this, and it was thrilling, but also terrifying.
we had seven shows back to back for seven days. Two on a Sunday. The mental endurance all of this took was insane. I loved it, but I was also so nervous that I was going to get sick or something was going to happen to me. I was also terrified that while on stage, I would forget my lines. There were times where some of us did forget our lines, and we all just worked together on the fly with a live audience, bailing each other out. Acting on stage is a condensed version of life. The parallels of having to think on your feet, navigate difficult situations with your teammates when the stakes feel so high, is exhilarating. I haven’t rushed back to stage acting, however, it’s something that I hope to do again one day. Maybe on a smaller scale than the lead - but hope to experience this type of excitement again when my kids can watch - maybe even a musical 🎶
