It’s easy to focus on the beautiful kitchen or spacious rooms during a showing. But we’re also looking for the smaller clues that may point to a bigger issue.
Here are a few things that immediately catch our attention:
1. Fresh paint in one isolated area
It may be completely innocent, but it can also be covering an old stain or recent repair.
2. A strong air freshener or musty smell
Heavy fragrance can sometimes mask moisture, smoke or pet odours.
3. Doors and windows that stick
This could be a simple adjustment, but several throughout the home may deserve a closer look.
4. Watermarks on ceilings or around windows
Even a dry stain can reveal a past leak that should be investigated.
5. Cracks in walls or foundations
Not every crack is serious, but its size, direction and location matter.
6. Floors that slope or feel uneven
Older homes naturally settle, but noticeable movement should always be evaluated.
These signs don’t automatically mean you should walk away. They mean it’s time to ask better questions and bring in the right inspector.
