Have your own private adventure exploring the man-made lock system, sand bars, beaches, fishing, dock and go play golf, kayak, canoe, paddle board as well as local shops, festivals, and farmers markets. We were beyond thrilled and deeply honored to host the incredible crew of women from North of 50 during their special collaboration with RTO8 (Regional Tourism Organization 8)!

From cruising out of Beachwood Resort in Buckhorn down to picturesque Young’s Point, seeing these adventurous women take the helm and experience the Trent-Severn Waterway aboard one of our houseboats was pure joy. As they highlighted in the Gratitude Edition, a houseboat is truly your ultimate “floating cottage”—offering complete waterway mobility, cozy autumn tranquility, and touches of luxury like onboard hot tubs and fire tables!

As part of the thriving network of local businesses powering the Trent-Severn Trail Towns, we couldn't be more proud of the region we share! Being able to link travelers directly from our houseboats to charming lock stations, waterfront hubs, and must-visit local spots (especially those butter tart stops! 🥧) shows just how much our business community has to offer along the water.

We’ve never done a trip quite like this before… for the next 5 days we’ll be living in a houseboat 🎣

We’ll be exploring the Kawartha Lakes area, towing our fishing boat alongside us, checking out the locks and a few different spots along the way.

You don’t need a boat license to drive the houseboat. Egan Houseboat Rentals gives you a full walkthrough and training before you head out, so once you’re on the water, you’re free to explore throughout the Trent-Severn Waterway

All of this just a couple hours from the Greater Toronto Area

We spent 5 days living on a houseboat… and brought our fishing boat along with us 🎣

The houseboat became our basecamp while we explored the Kawartha Lakes and Trent Severn Waterway, checking out different spots and chasing walleye, perch, and muskie.

The walleye and perch fishing was unreal, and we even caught some awesome bluegill along the way. The Kawarthas are known for muskie too, so we spent some time casting for them whenever we could.

Egan Houseboat Rentals​⁠ made the whole experience super easy with a full walkthrough and training before we headed out. To confirm you don’t need a boat license to drive the houseboat but you do need to complete the Rental Boat Safety Checklist provided by Egan.

All of this is just a couple hours from the GTA.

Short answer: No!

Per Transport Canada, we provide all the training you need to meet the Proof of Competence requirement.

To ensure you feel safe and confident on the water, our process includes:
➡ Pre-arrival training videos
➡ A comprehensive onboard orientation at check-in
➡ Daily support from our service team throughout your trip

Every renter receives this hands-on training, whether you hold a PCOC or not (though having one might make your learning curve a little shorter!).
