I had the immense pleasure of attending the Safer Spaces event held at the Picton public library. Host taught how to build safer, more inclusive spaces for 2SLGBTQIA+ community. Myles explored pronoun use, gender identity, and the meaning of 2SLGBTQIA+. I was able to ask a lot of questions and learned lots from Myles and the wonderful group of attendees.

I also had the pleasure of meeting Jackie Dales of pflag Canada. (pflagcanada.ca) pflag Canada is a national charitable organization that was founded by parents who needed help learning how to accept and support their 2SLGBTQIA+ children. They are dedicated to supporting, educating, and advocating for 2SLGBTQIA+ people and those who love them.

I hope we see more of these events in the County.

Continuing with the theme of community resilience, we setup our raised garden bed at home. 🌱👩🏻‍🌾👨🏻‍🌾🥬

I'm hoping we:
1) Actually grow some vegetables and not continue my streak of killing all plants I've ever had,
2) give any excess food to our neighbours, and
3) give to the surrounding food banks and other organizations. This may be ambitious with our little bed but we can always expand!

Last month Gillian and I attended the Emergency Preparedness Week event at the Prince Edward Community Centre, where over 100 residents gathered under the theme “Be Prepared. Know Your Risks.” The event was organized by ReadyPEC and featured resource tables from Prince Edward County Fire & Rescue, Picton Rotary, 99.3 County FM, and Neighbours Helping Neighbours, plus door prizes of crank radios. An expert panel where Carson Arthur of Carson's Garden + Market, Deputy Fire Chief Tim Kraemer, Dr. Margaret Tromp, and Craig Mills discussed steps for household readiness, neighbourhood support, and reducing pressure on emergency services.
