A Buyers Choice Home Inspections Central Alberta A Buyer's Choice Home Inspections Central Alberta A home inspection is a visual examination of the physical condition of a home (or other building).

This is usually, but not always, connected to the sale of that home or building and its findings often determine the successful completion of that sale. A home inspection will usually include an examination of the foundation and basement, roof, attic, heating and water systems, electrical and plumbing systems, as well as the general condition of the structure itself. An inspector will look for poor construction practices and make note of any repairs that might be required or any general maintenance issues. Importantly, they will also make note of any fire and safety issues that need to be addressed.

Fall can be a good time to make a move, whether you’re buying or selling.

The Canadian Real Estate Association’s (CREA) July forecast called for a more active second half of 2026, although it projects home sales for the full year to finish 1.4% below 2025. In August, national sales dipped 0.7% from July while new listings rose 3.3%.

If you’re thinking of listing your property this fall, here are a few simple things you can do to get your home ready: https://hubs.ly/Q04zd2G70

A home inspection is an important part of the equation as well, regardless of whether you’re buying or selling this fall since not all important home features are visible to an untrained eye.

Thanks to warmer fall weather, there are likely many families playing this game! There’s a very small window where we’re not paying to either heat or cool our homes.

Have you turned your furnace on? What inside temperature prompts you to turn on the heat?

The age of the home you’re buying is one of the key factors that will determine the home inspector’s priorities.

If you’re buying new: Your inspector will look for installation issues, construction flaws, unfinished work and problems with key systems like plumbing, electrical, HVAC and structural components.

If you’re buying older: The focus may shift to wear and tear, outdated wiring or plumbing, water damage, structural concerns, mould, pests and other age-related issues.

Whether you’re buying new or old, a thorough inspection ensures you understand the condition of the property and helps you plan for – or avoid – unexpected repairs or costly fixes down the road.
