October 15th 10:15 am is the day when over 60 million people worldwide will participate in the Great ShakeOut Earthquake Drills.

Here at WRP we believe in being proactive - when it comes to preparation.

Three plumbing things every homeowner should know before an earthquake:

1. Where your main water shutoff is.
2. Whether your water heater is properly secured with the BC code required earthquake strapping. (Your water heater is a great source of emergency water supply)
3. Where your gas shutoff is — and whether an automatic gas shut off system is a good decision for your home and family.

You do not need to be an expert to be prepared. A few minutes spent learning the basics now can make a stressful situation feel far more manageable later.

Friday night. A house full of company. Dishes in the sink. And our own hot water heater started leaking. 🙈

This time, Wade and I were the ones needing help fast, and we got to experience the See Blue difference firsthand. 💙

Scott and Edwin came to the rescue and had us back up and running within a few hours. Seeing them in action in our own home, and feeling that relief ourselves, reminded us all over again that our crew in blue really are something special.

Your tank holds a lot of water and carries a lot of weight. If it is not properly secured, an earthquake can create damage that goes well beyond the tank itself.

A simple place to start: check whether your water heater is properly strapped and make sure you know who to call if you are unsure about the plumbing or gas connections around it.

Preparedness is not about worrying. It is about handling the basics before you need them.
