Dream it, Build It, Live it The original and current owners of Donwest Construction Ltd. arrived on Canadian soil, from the Netherlands, in the early 60's.

Incorporated in 1968, Donwest Construction has been involved in the building industry in St.Thomas and surrounding area for 40 years. In a few short years they started to live their Canadian dream of owning their own business and providing for their families with a sense of pride and commitment to community. From the beginning, the firm's goal was to build a quality home that the average working f

amily could afford. Over the years, Donwest expanded to provide housing to all segments of the industry including private custom homes, condominiums and high-end housing. in the mid 70's, the firm was successful in contracting a number of Senior Citizen's Homes Projects throughout the province. During the late 80's and early 90's, the firm was also awarded the contract to build the Dream Home for the Toronto National Home Show for 8 consecutive years. In the mid 80's, Donwest established a development company, that is now a division of Donwest Contruction Ltd., and quickly became one of the largest developers of residential lots in the St. Thomas area. The firm is currently continuing to take part in our city's growth and expansion, offering new potential homeowners the opportunity to enjoy living in an area surrounded by nature and natural wetlands, walking trails and a peaceful lifestyle. The company has become a vital part of the residential growth of St. Thomas and the surrounding area. The firm has always been an integral part of the local Homebuilder's Association. Donwest staff members have sat on the Homebuilder's Board of Directors for the past 35 years and have held the position of President on numerous occasions. The firm has been very instrumental in the unprecedented growth that the City of St. Thomas has experienced of the last decade.

The province is planning to temporarily remove Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) for buyers of new homes.

Premier Doug Ford announced the plan Wednesday at a news conference in Mississauga, saying the full 13 per cent tax will be removed for new homes valued up to $1 million from April 1, 2026 to March 31, 2027.
