Week 16 Update: We have not been able to post regularly as we did not have access to inside the house. This week we had to drop off some flooring. Thats when we got a chance to see the progress. Basement concrete was poured after all the rough in for developing a future apartment were installed. We finally have steps to basement and can access it. On the Main floor, all the walls are completed. Builder will begin painting next week. We are going with Benjamin moore Chantilly Lace and Chimichuri. Anu picked the color as she thinks Green is everlasting elegance. Whole house is green themed. Let's see how it will look like in coming weeks , fingers crossed. We purchased flooring from Costco. Our allowance was $3000 and we are able to keep it under $2000. That includes tiles for entrance. Our floor is desert sand color and its vinyl( waterproof) . We are in the process of purchasing outdoor light fixtures. We have some allowance for that as well. Trying to save as much as we can and get our savings adjusted during closing. Mini split outdoor units were mounted. Kitchen will arrive from China this week but only God knows when it will be delivered. Anu ordered a unique pedestal for common bath and I cannot wait to see how it's going to turn out. Our original plan was only one bath. We optimized the space to add the second one. We purchased it from Rona in Ontario and brought it all the way to NL . Hopefully it's all worth it.

Week 12 Update - I am back. Sorry for not sharing updates for week 10 & 11. We were away for friends wedding. So after 12 weeks following have been completed:
- Insulation - spray foam. Provides over R60. Keeps heat inside .
- Most of electrical work. We had requested some key locations for power lines. For led mirrors, for pull out drawer in pantry for appliances , for reverse osmosis unit under sink etc. Mini splits were also installed.
- Most of plumbing work has been completed as well. You can see rough in plumbing in basement for future washroom.
- Dry walls has been installed.
Over all great progress by week 12.
I dint see a rough in for drain for future kitchenette in basement. Will discuss with builder. There are so many things you have to consider while building. Power back up wiring. Ev outlets etc. Reach out if you would like to build your home with a contractor.

Week 9 update - siding is almost complete except the front. We had requested three types which is why causing delays. The gable section is board and batten, centre section is the same horizontal siding as the rear and the front door area is teak colour siding. Love how the black soffit and fascia boards look.The two windows in the basement were added on. Was not in the original plan. Also, if you pay attention to the location siding door , you can see that it is on the side of the house. It was done due to two main reasons. First and most important reason was to have a covering for the access to basement. Just by moving the location of sliding door, we got a covering. Secondly, it helped us save cost of a window. That side has the most amazing views and we had to put something there to utilize and enjoy the views. Now, no window can beat a size of a sliding door. Haha... there is a lot of planning that goes into building a house. If you plan well, and have a good builder by your side, you could make your dreams come true. We love new builds.

Week 8 update of our home build - We got there around sunset and it already feels magical. We had to drop off some items that we had purchased. We still cannot believe we are this far into this build. Home was partially weather strapped. Windows are installed. Front,Basement and sliding doors is installed and locked. Views from deck will be unreal. Shall share separately. Now our builder keeps showing his commitment and openness over and over. As per our appendix - we were supposed to get a white door with normal glass insert and we were expected to paint it after closing. Please zoom in and see the door. It's a black contemporary looking one matching our soffit and shingles. It will go well with the teak siding around it. We had his permission to take pictures and access the house. Due to safety reasons, builders don't allow anyone to be at construction sites to avoid accidents. Please, always get permission from your builder and be extra cautious.

Week 7 # update of our . Shingles done. House will be weather wrapped. Windows and doors will be installed next. We had our frame walk with builder. Our builder is the most patient person. He is building our home as if he were building his. We are thankful to God, to be working with him. I have worked with High/ Medium density builders and they are not very flexible and if they are, it comes at a premium when it could be done reasonably. If anyone is considering home build , I would highly recommend our builder or go with Low density builders. When I asked our builder about how many homes he build a year, he said about 5. We discussed many things. Made sure all the locations where we needed extra blocks were communicated. Discussed about rough in locations in basement. We spent about 1.5 hrs and it was very well spent. We discussed about exterior color options and we decided to go with white and brown theme. Can't wait to see how it's going to turn out!!
