Prosperity of Tamils from Sri Lanka in Canada
While Sri Lankan Tamils just remembered the lost and fallen last week, reflecting on the journey we, Tamils, embarked on when we landed in Canada in large numbers from Sri Lanka due to the violence against Tamils brings a profound sense of growth and accomplishment. For many Tamils, the decision to leave was akin to a death sentence, forcing them to abandon their homeland without completing their education. However, the freedom, generosity, and recognition in Canada, which were denied in the homeland, provided Tamils with opportunities not only to complete high school but also to excel in higher education across various fields. Many have become professionals such as scientists, CEOs, politicians, and entrepreneurs. In just twenty-five years, Tamils have emerged as an economic and political engine of Ontario, showcasing the remarkable resilience and success of the Tamil community in Canada.
It's noteworthy that those who initially joined as dishwashers a few decades ago now own high-end restaurants in the GTA, and some own more than ten, extending their influence to various parts of Ontario. This transformation speaks volumes about the resilience and success of the Tamil community in Canada.
Personally, my path led me to become a CPA in 1997. I've worked for esteemed organizations like IBM Canada for more than twelve years, Sobeys, KPMG, CIBC, and Rogers, holding senior management positions. Over 18 years ago, I transitioned from my professional life to establish Nine Arch Estates, a luxury custom home builder—a natural passion that I have thoroughly enjoyed and excelled in.
Our early days in Canada were marked by shared hardships, living in apartments around Wellesley and Parliament, and working hard in lower-paying jobs. Yet, our collective sacrifices paved the way for a better life for our families and the community.
As time progressed, job opportunities improved, incomes increased, and many of us moved to various locations in the GTA for a more comfortable life. In the third stage of our path to prosperity, we became professionals, entrepreneurs, homeowners, vehicle owners, and started families.
In recent years, Tamils have been building custom homes at astonishing numbers, with some opting for estate mansions boasting luxury features, indoor amenities, and multiple luxury car garages. Today, it fills me with immense pride to call my clients the "rich and successful Tamil community." Building over 20,000 sq ft ultra-luxury estate for a Tamil client was a dream I never thought would come true. I am proud of our community's hard work, dedication, and foresight, and equally proud to contribute to this remarkable milestone in our journey in Canada.
Clients consistently choose Nine Arch Estates to build their custom homes not just because I am a fellow Tamil, but for honesty, transparency, professionalism, and, most importantly, an excellent track record. The track record of designing and building an authentic French Chateau or a modern home is unparalleled—nothing will look alike. As a licensed builder, I am committed to serving my community and all Canadians, continually enhancing my knowledge to construct net-zero-ready homes for my clients.
Lastly, the number nine holds special significance—symbolic of the profound impact the nine planets have on Earth and our affairs. Similarly, Nine Arch is a symbol of enduring, strong structures. We at Nine Arch Estates are committed to building safer and energy-smarter homes that last.
I am planning an informational session in the media regarding the intricacy of custom home building. Stay tuned.
When you call a builder to build your custom home, please do not ask "how much per sq ft to build a home" :-)
