Today, we pause to remember the bravery, sacrifice, and resilience of those who served and continue to serve our country.

May we always honour their legacy and carry forward the values of peace, freedom, and community they fought to protect.

As part of our Annual Day of Giving Back, last week Friday the KDC team volunteered at the GlobalMedic location in Cloverdale Mall.

Global Medic packages and distributes food to various food banks from BC to Nova Scotia, as well as providing global assistance outside of Canada. We set aside one day each year, close our offices and volunteer as a group, reinforcing our company and personal beliefs in giving back, supporting the communities we work in, and being good corporate citizens

The UBC Centre for Interactive Research on Sustainability (CIRS) in Vancouver is more than just a Net Zero building—it’s a living textbook.

At KDC we believe that if we want future generations to build a Net Zero world, we must equip them with a Net Zero education.

For the students and future creators who study here, systems like the restorative constructed wetlands, pollinator meadows, and integrated water management aren’t just features; they are daily, tangible lessons in regenerative design.

These ecological campuses demonstrate that environmental stewardship (Planet) and high-performance design (Projects) must be the foundational skills for tomorrow’s leaders. This exposure inspires the bold, integrated thinking needed to solve our industry’s biggest challenges.

How are leading institutions preparing students to be the stewards of the built environment?

The scale of ambition in Canadian development is at an all-time high.

We are inspired by the commitment of major developers piloting Toronto’s Quayside, which, upon completion, will be Canada’s largest all-electric, zero-carbon master-planned community.

This initiative—set to be home to 7,500 people and 1,600 jobs—proves that large-scale, complex projects can and must be built with the Planet first.

The Quayside model—with its carbon-free heating, geoexchange systems, and focus on energy resilience—shows our industry exactly what is possible.

It’s a powerful challenge to us all: How can we make every new community a zero-carbon community?

KDC attended the 2025 CTBUH International Conference happening in Toronto this year from October 6 to 9. This year’s theme, “From the Ground Up: Tall Buildings and City-Making,” delves into the holistic approach needed for city growth, highlighting that urban development goes beyond mere structures.

October 9 was the wrap up of the 2025 CTBUH International Conference with this year’s awards being presented, and two KDC projects received a total of three awards.

The Well was the recipient of the 2025 Urban Habitat Award.
The One was the recipient of the 2025 Construction Award and the 2025 Structure Award.

Great Teams create great projects, and the consultant teams on these projects are just that, great partners collaborating to create great projects.

A floating solar farm, or “floatovoltaics,” is an innovative energy solution that involves placing solar panels on the surface of a body of water. This technology is especially useful for areas where land is scarce or too expensive for traditional solar panel installations. In addition to saving land, the water’s natural cooling effect can boost the panels’ efficiency. This design represents a creative and efficient way to use resources and space to help the world transition to a cleaner energy future!

New innovations in the world of Green Technology are always on the rise.

Scientists at the University of Copenhagen have devised a way to tackle both plastic pollution and the climate crisis at the same time. They’ve created a method to transform plastic waste into a material that can effectively capture CO2. The process breaks down the plastic’s long polymer chains into smaller monomers, which creates a new material with a chemical structure that’s highly effective at capturing and holding onto CO2.

A team of chemists has discovered how to transform PET plastic waste into BAETA, a material that captures CO2 with remarkable efficiency. Instead of ending up as microplastics in the environment, discarded bottles and textiles could become tools to combat climate change. The method is energy-friendl...

There continues to be a rise in eco-friendly homes & comunities in the Greater Toronto Area.

Green homes, according to research from the Canada Green Building Council, can cut energy use by 20-30%, which means homeowners save a lot on their utility bills.

And so, not only do green homes offer benefits like a reduced carbon footprint, a healthier living environment, but they can offer long-term financial savings on utility bills!

The concept of “waste” is rapidly evolving from an environmental burden to a valuable resource, particularly within the construction sector.

From the millions of plastic bottles transformed into high-performance building panels by Canadian companies to the industrial by-products, like fly ash, finding new life in durable concrete, the potential is immense.

By embracing these innovations, we can significantly reduce landfill waste and build a more resourceful future.

As we continue to be a part of this city’s growth, KDC was honored to celebrate One Bloor West becoming Canada’s first supertall building, officially reaching 300 meters!

We were proud to share our journey as Development Manager, a role that allowed us to restore momentum and confidence to this iconic project.

KDC, along with many key trades involved in the project, happily contributed to this monumental celebration with a commemorative time capsule.

Contributing to its revival was a truly rewarding experience, reaffirming our commitment to building with intention and integrity. Congratulations to Tridel and Deltera for leading the project’s successful completion!
