Why Clearing Exterior Vents After Snowfall Is a Winter Safety Must
As winter storms get heavier and more frequent, homeowners often focus on the obvious: shoveling driveways, salting walkways, and brushing off cars. But one critical safety step is easy to overlook—keeping exterior vents and exhaust pipes clear of snow.
Your home’s dryer vent, furnace exhaust, and gas appliance vents play a vital role in allowing combustion gases and moisture to escape. When snow piles up and blocks these openings, those gases—including carbon monoxide (CO)—can back up into your home. CO is odorless, colorless, and extremely dangerous, making vent clearance not just a maintenance task, but a life-safety priority.
After any significant snowfall, take a moment to walk around your home and confirm that exterior vents are fully clear and unobstructed. This is especially important for high-efficiency furnaces with low-mounted PVC exhaust pipes that can be easily buried by drifting snow.
A quick check after the storm can prevent major risks—and ensure your home stays warm, safe, and healthy all winter long.

Toronto’s real estate market has been taking a noticeable step back.
Average home prices have slipped below what we saw in 2021, thanks to a buildup of unsold inventory and fewer buyers in the market. Detached homes have been hit the hardest, but the correction is showing up across almost every segment.
On top of that, many homeowners are feeling the squeeze as their mortgages come up for renewal at much higher rates. With home values dropping, equity is shrinking too, which leaves fewer options for people trying to refinance or manage rising payments.
Condo developers are also running into trouble. New builds are having a hard time competing because resale units—often just a year old—are now listing for less. Some buyers are walking away from closing on purchases that have passed the time line for commitment.

Key trends right now:

Prices are down: GTA home prices have dropped month-over-month and are well below their 2022 peak, with detached homes seeing some of the biggest declines.

Sales are slow: Listings are sitting longer, and sales volume remains low—especially for new construction. For the buyers sitting on a side line, this is the time to consider the market.

Inventory keeps growing: High levels of unsold homes are putting even more downward pressure on prices.

Financial strain is rising: Higher mortgage renewal rates and declining equity are creating real stress for many homeowners.

Condos are struggling: New condo projects are priced above comparable resale units, which are losing value quickly.

Market-wide correction: While a few pockets, like the luxury market, are still active, the broader GTA is in a downturn.
Suburban areas such as Mississauga and Brampton are seeing some of the steepest year-over-year drops.

"Why Real Estate Buyers Need to Do More Homework."

I recently came across a post where a Buyer was asking questions about his real estate transaction on Facebook, AFTER they have purchased a property.. While a skilled agent is an invaluable resource, Buyers still need to do their own homework to avoid costly mistakes and ensure they’re making informed decisions.

Real estate is one of the biggest financial commitments most people will ever make. Yet many buyers rush into offers without fully understanding market trends, comparable sales, neighbourhood dynamics, or long-term resale potential. Others depend entirely on what an agent tells them, forgetting that agents vary widely in experience, motivation, and expertise.
Doing your own research empowers you.

Seeing the advice of a real estate lawyer always adds a lawyer of protection for the Buyers.

Reviewing recent sales, visiting neighbourhoods at different times of day, understanding local schools and zoning rules, and
checking property history can help you see beyond the listing. It also prepares you to ask sharper questions and recognize when advice is solid—or when it’s incomplete.

Good agents welcome informed clients. They want buyers who are engaged, curious, and clear about their priorities. When buyers understand the market themselves, the agent-client relationship becomes more collaborative and more effective.
In real estate, knowledge truly is leverage. Buyers who take the time to educate themselves make smarter decisions, negotiate with more confidence, and are far less likely to experience regret after closing. A little homework doesn’t just protect your investment—it strengthens the partnership with your agent and leads to better outcomes for everyone.
