Not every survey happens in the field.

Behind every crew out there measuring, setting control, and chasing coordinates, there’s a whole lot happening back at the office.

Plans are reviewed. Data gets processed. Drawings get checked. Reports get prepared. Emails get sent. Questions get answered. And yes… there’s usually a coffee somewhere in the mix.

Every good team has someone who somehow knows what’s going on, keeps things moving, and makes sure the details don’t fall through the cracks.

At Rouse Surveyors, that person is Tammy, our Executive Assistant.

Large infrastructure projects have a lot of moving parts.

And somewhere between the drawings, the construction schedule, the crews, the equipment, and everything happening on site… there’s the survey work keeping things tied together.

From establishing control and construction layout to monitoring, as-builts, rail, tunnels, and everything in between, the work isn’t always the part you notice.

But it’s there, in every line, elevation, point, and measurement.

Good construction starts with good survey data.

Before the first pour, the right information helps crews know exactly where things need to go, from grades and layout to final as-builts.

Because when the survey data is right, the rest of the project has a much better chance of moving smoothly.

That’s the part of construction surveying we don’t always see once the building starts taking shape, but it’s there in every line, elevation, and point.

Concrete is moving, the rebar is going in, and there’s no room for guesswork.

Our crew is on site making sure the survey points and layout are where they need to be before the next phase moves forward. It’s one of those jobs where a few minutes of checking can save a lot of time later.

🕵️‍♀️ Treasure found, more than 3 feet underground!

We dug up an iron bar that looked like it might be the one… but something didn’t quite add up.

So we kept digging.

Directly below it, more than 3 feet below grade was the original subdivision bar we were looking for.

Sometimes surveying takes patience, persistence, and a willingness to dig a little deeper. Literally. 😂

We see it all the time: a project moves forward based on an old survey, a rough guess, or a plan that was never legally certified. Then a permit gets held up, or a fence ends up a foot into the neighbour's yard, and everything stalls.

Only a licensed Ontario Land Surveyor (OLS) can produce a survey the City, your lender, or a court will actually recognize. If your project touches a property line or needs a permit, that's the moment to call one, not after the work has already started.
