The GTA Housing Market in January 2022 began the same way December 2021 ended with Home sales down but prices skyrocketing. Sales were down by 18.2 per cent compared to January record in 2021, but this January had 5,636 transactions, which is the second-best result in the history for this month. The average selling price surged 28.6 per cent.

I continued with my conversations with other markets in Canada, specifically Adam Scott in Halifax, and you might find it interesting about some of the similarities and differences that different buyers and sellers are experiencing.

One significant trend that we are experiencing is Baby Boomers, those born between 1945 and 1965, are staying in their homes longer and contributing to the low inventory problem across Canada. A key problem is Boomers don't want to downsize without finding a their next destination. Many are looking to sell in the most expensive markets and move to the less expensive markets. Not an option for all, but a more and more popular one for many.
