There’s something powerful about getting out of the office and hitting the boots on the ground.

Today was all about going to the Gemba (as the Japanese say) — seeing firsthand what’s being built, asking questions, learning in real time. From a nearly completed garden suite to a hotel spa still taking shape, every detail can be seen and tells a story you just can’t capture on paper.

A big shoutout to the team on site — they’re doing some incredible work, and it shows in the details.

These are the moments where ideas sharpen, assumptions get challenged, and real learning happens.

When you’re genuinely passionate about what you do, it never really feels like “work.” Although it is difficult to take time out of the regular schedule, days like these are important and always worth the time. Here's to scheduling more days at the Gemba!

The Globe and Mail recently shared an interesting forecast for the S&P 500 through 2040.

Since 1960, the average market P/E ratio has been around 18. As of January 2026, it sits at 31; well above historical norms while average earnings for S&P 500 companies have grown at a relatively modest 2.4% annually since 2012.

One explanation offered is that lower bond yields have pushed investors toward equities.

A couple of additional possibilities come to mind:

1. Some of the capital that might otherwise flow into real estate is being allocated to the stock markets
2. Herd mentality - when optimism and liquidity combine, valuations can stretch beyond fundamentals

It brings to mind Warren Buffett’s quote:
“Be fearful when others are greedy. Be greedy when others are fearful.”
