The report suggests that while conventional wisdom would suggest luxury home prices should be falling, prices remained steady in 2022. The reasons for this include an increase in wealth, more luxury purchases made in cash, and a lifestyle change resulting from Covid-19 leading to people spending more time at home and valuing their home lives more.

The Ban on Foreign Homebuyers in Canada Explained.

The Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp. will implement a two-year ban on foreign nationals and enterprises purchasing residential properties in Canada, which started on January 1.

Exceptions to the ban are for temporary work permit holders, refugee claimants, and international students who meet specific criteria. Non-Canadians who violate the ban will be fined up to $10,000 and may be required to sell their property.

If the gloomy and short days are not reason enough to give you the blues, the newly released December stats will. The sales volume was cut in half and prices were down by 9.2% compared to the same month in 2021.

There is no way to sugar-coat it; December was a sad month for real estate. Looking back at 2022 and putting things into perspective, home prices ended on a positive note with an 8.6% increase compared to the previous year.

Looking to 2023, we predict that tight inventory levels combined with record immigration will put upward pressure on home prices and rents.
