The official first day of fall begins on September 22. Is your home fall-ready? Now is the time to get ahead of of home care and prepare your home for the changing seasons.
We have gathered a few tips to help you prepare as the temperatures drop and leaves begin to fall 🍂🍁
#1 Check your windows for cracks and leaks
Fall is a great time to open up those windows, allowing the fall breeze to flow freely through your home. However, it's also a great time to check your windows for any cracks and leaks. If your windows have any cracks or leaks, reseal them with silicone-based latex caulk.
#2 Make sure you sweep and inspect your chimney
The right time to have your chimney professionally swept and inspected before warming up next to your fireplace on a chilly fall evening.
#3 Do not forget to inspect the roof and clean the gutters
Check for damaged shingles, cracks, and other obvious signs of damage. Gutter cleaning may not be your most favourite chore, but it sure is important. Especially during the fall season, cleaning out your gutters from debris keeps rainwater moving and not collecting inside your home.
#4 Test your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors
Make sure you check, test and replace all batteries on your smoke detectors and make sure they still work. Additionally, it is important for you to invest in a carbon monoxide detector. This odourless and colourless gas is near impossible to identify without a detector, as it is caused by fuels not burning completely, which can come from clothes dryers, water heaters, and fireplaces.
Setting some time aside now to take care of your home before the temperature drops means that you will be set up to sit back, relax, and enjoy this beautiful season!
