Vaughan Families Could Save up to $230K
Big news for Vaughan families: the city could be on the verge of unlocking savings of up to $230,000 for new homebuyers, thanks to major changes in development charges and possible government funding. Since March 30, 2026, Vaughan has cut residential development charges by about half, and since February 25, 2026, qualifying projects citywide can benefit from a complete elimination of these fees. That’s a potential $98,000 reduction in new home construction costs—when you combine this with HST relief, buyers could see total savings reach $230,000.
The city estimates that these measures, along with investments in housing-supporting infrastructure, could help create more than 120,000 new housing units. This means more options and better affordability for both homebuyers and renters. Planned upgrades include water and stormwater improvements, wider roads, a new Highway 7 bridge, and a new fire station to keep up with community growth. While all of this hinges on federal and provincial agreements, as well as city participation, it’s an exciting step toward making homeownership more accessible.
