Looking back to 1959 and the view of Orton Park Rd. just north of Brimorton Drive. Here the vantage point is looking southeast, the picture capturing on the left side, Madras Cres.( shaped like the letter “d”), and Hapley Dr. and above this just a smidgeon of Botany Hill Rd. at its southern connection to Orton Park Rd.
At the bottom left, and fading out gradually, is the late 1940’s road that ran east from Orton Park Rd. to align in a straight path to where Plover Rd. is today. This road allowance was located on the north side of the Thompson farmhouse and was used a fair amount prior to to development of the Curran Hall community as an entry point to get people to the scouts “Camp of the Crooked Creek”. The road on the lower right side belonged to the Stableford Farm which remained without homes until 1966, twelve years after being purchased by the federal-provincial government through their land acquisition efforts to build homes in response to widespread post-war housing shortages. A house belonging to the Stableford family can be seen in the upper right hand corner, which was just north of the Orton Parkway Plaza, the home’s year of construction unknown, it was lost to fire in the early 1980’s, several homes later built on its property.

Enjoy the outdoors at Petticoat Creek Conservation Park, with inviting pools, picnic sites and the Waterfront Trail to experience Lake Ontario.
