As inflationary pressures ease, the Bank of Canada announced a 25 basis point decrease in the policy interest rate.

Bank of Canada governor, Tiff Macklem, says there was a ‘strong consensus’ for cutting the bank’s key policy to 4.25% — but, he said if inflation continues to ease in line with the bank’s forecast, it’s ‘reasonable’ to expect further cuts.

This decision reflects ongoing efforts to stabilize inflation while balancing economic growth for Canadians.

The next interest rate announcement is scheduled for October 23, 2024.
