Episode 142 of Wednesday Wisdom - REALTOR VS. CHATBOT AND AI

I read an article by Stuart A. Thompson in the New York Times about how he took a "gamble" and used a chatbot to sell his home. He decided to forego the services of a Realtor to save commission. Further he used the chatbot to market and negotiate his property.

The article posits that Realtors will one day be like travel agents, a source of convenience not service. Making broad stroke comments like that is EXACTLY how you should NOT think when you require a service. Service is as individual as the people providing it. The experience people in different fields; including real estate, provide experience, knowledge and expertise that extends beyond only the price.

WHAT A GREAT REALTOR PREVENTS IS SOMETHING FROM HAPPENING AFTER THE SALE. What I mean by that is what DOESN'T happen e.g. a lawsuit or conflict; after you've sold is the true mark of an expert (along with neogotiating on your behalf. Yes; as people continue to use AI they are training their replacement as the more you teach it the more it learns to replace you and it is also impressive to think of a database that involves millions of agents' knowledge.

All of that information is a great tool but the nuances of service provided by experience that adapt as your situation of your sale or purchase unfold...that's the truly creative art of service. So while the author was content to forego a commission on his biggest asset... I wouldn't be looking for AI for final answers in ANY situation more so as a way to gain more information and fact check the process as you go along (which a great agent also does for you).
