Haven't renewed that street parking permit yet? Better get on it!

Permit parking enforcement on residential streets in the City of Toronto will resume on Friday, August 14 at 11:59 p.m. Enforcement, as well as the renewal and issuance of residential street parking permits, had been paused due to COVID-19.

The period to renew existing, or purchase new, six- and twelve-month on-street parking permits began on July 2, 2020, when the parking permit office resumed operation. It was extended to Friday, August 7 to maximize the window for residents. All requests for six- and twelve-month residential parking permits should be submitted as soon as possible to ensure permits arrive before August 14.

Temporary daily and weekly parking permits can be purchased online anytime at https://www.toronto.ca/parking.

While the parking permit office remains closed to the public, it can be accessed in the short-term at 416-392-7873 or [email protected], with extended hours from 8:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday to Friday.

Toronto Short-Term Rental Regulation Clears Final Hurdle

03 July 2020

The City passed a bylaw amendment restricting short-term rentals in late 2017, and the rules were supposed to take effect in June 2018. But an appeal by short-term landlords to the Local Appeal Planning Tribunal (LPAT) delayed the implementation of the zoning and accompanying licensing rules.

At the end of June 2020, the divisional court dismissed the landlords’ motion to appeal the decision of the provincial tribunal that sided with the city’s regulations of Airbnb-style accommodation in November.

Following the LPAT ruling, Toronto declared the bylaws to be in effect, but it is still working out enforcement and accompanying licensing details. Those were to have been released in the fall of 2019, but COVID-19 means new timelines are expected this summer, according to City staff.

The City maintained its position that the bylaws permit homeowners to earn rental income from their principal residences, but they also protect the city’s housing stock and keep hotels from operating in residential neighbourhoods, including high-rise condominiums.

Please refer to the City of Toronto’s Short-Term Rentals website - https://www.toronto.ca/community-people/housing-shelter/rental-housing-standards/short-term-rentals/ - for complete details on the rules, licensing and implementation details.

The Province of Ontario’s Emergency Measure Act lifted restrictions on short-term rentals in Ontario on June 5, 2020. In Toronto, all short-term rentals must comply with the Licensing and Registration Of Short-Term Rentals bylaw that remains in effect. Details on the bylaw are below.   On Decembe...

Our family loves getting the bikes out for a ride from our place in the Beach down to Tommy Thompson Park. It may not be the most romantic way to spend Valentine's Day, but definitely one for the PVR.

There is a hidden natural world in the unlikeliest of places - in the heart of Canada’s largest city.
