Old Money Decor Is the Timeless Look Taking Over Interiors:

There’s a fresh decorating trend on the scene, and it’s rich. We’re saying goodbye to the new and flashy and hello to a blast from the past that’s anything but boring. The old money aesthetic is taking the design and fashion worlds by storm, with no sign of letting up anytime soon.

“Eschewing the obviously flashy decor, trend-chasing, and interiors showmanship of the nouveau riche crowd, this style grounds itself in classically chic pieces with staying power,” says Heather Goerzen, Havenly design editor. “It’s Ralph Lauren Home meets Christie’s with a side of polo matches and Dom Perignon.” But with old money decor, it all comes down to the quiet luxury design tenets which, according to Goerzen, are craftsmanship, quality, and originality.

The official first day of fall begins on September 22. Is your home fall-ready? Now is the time to get ahead of of home care and prepare your home for the changing seasons.

We have gathered a few tips to help you prepare as the temperatures drop and leaves begin to fall 🍂🍁

#1 Check your windows for cracks and leaks
Fall is a great time to open up those windows, allowing the fall breeze to flow freely through your home. However, it's also a great time to check your windows for any cracks and leaks. If your windows have any cracks or leaks, reseal them with silicone-based latex caulk.

#2 Make sure you sweep and inspect your chimney
The right time to have your chimney professionally swept and inspected before warming up next to your fireplace on a chilly fall evening.

#3 Do not forget to inspect the roof and clean the gutters
Check for damaged shingles, cracks, and other obvious signs of damage. Gutter cleaning may not be your most favourite chore, but it sure is important. Especially during the fall season, cleaning out your gutters from debris keeps rainwater moving and not collecting inside your home.

#4 Test your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors
Make sure you check, test and replace all batteries on your smoke detectors and make sure they still work. Additionally, it is important for you to invest in a carbon monoxide detector. This odourless and colourless gas is near impossible to identify without a detector, as it is caused by fuels not burning completely, which can come from clothes dryers, water heaters, and fireplaces.

Setting some time aside now to take care of your home before the temperature drops means that you will be set up to sit back, relax, and enjoy this beautiful season!

What Would “Affordable” Home Prices Actually Mean for the Canadian Economy?

▪️ The impossible has happened: Canadian house prices — which, as everyone knows, only ever go up — have started coming down. With mortgage rates jumping to their highest levels since 2009, borrowers have found themselves with far less buying power than they had even at the start of this year — and it shows.

▪️ Home sales in Toronto and Vancouver were down more than 40% in July, compared to the same month a year earlier, plumbing multi-year lows. Both cities have seen average selling prices fall by tens of thousands from their peak earlier this year, though prices — for now — are still higher than a year ago.

Back to school season is almost here and we've got some tips for organizing your home so that you can start the year off well.

It’s not just getting your kids ready, it’s also making your home safe, comfortable and clutter-free before those first few afternoons back from school. Here are three tips to get your home ready for back to school.

#1 Organize Your Entryway
✅ Hang small hooks or arm racks on the wall to hold hats and jackets
✅ Use a basket for keeping your mail and keys in one place
✅ A bench with storage bins is a great place for kids to put their coats and shoes when they come home from school

#2 Declutter Your Pantry
The back to school season is a great time to review your pantry and make sure that you have all the staples you need on hand. As you're cleaning out or restocking, think about these tips.
✅ If you have a pantry filled with cereal boxes, old coffee filters and unopened cans of soup, it may be time to check the expiry dates and declutter
✅ Create groups of items such as "baking supplies", "cereals," "snacks for kids," and more, so it's easy to find exactly what you need
✅ Add storage containers to make your search even easier

#3 Organizing The Kid's Bedrooms
A clean and clutter-free kids' bedroom will help your child focus on schoolwork. Follow these tips to create an organized space that is easy for your children to keep clean.
✅ Use canvas baskets to put their small toys away
✅ Add laundry baskets so their clothes don't end up on the floor
✅ Donate any unused toys and clothes to reduce clutter

4 Painting Secrets to Ensure Your Walls Stay in Tip-Top Shape:
▪️Paint jobs are a quick way to update and transform a room. Even though it is one of the easier DIY projects, slip-slapping paint over walls is not always a savvy approach. A shoddy paint job will need maintenance sooner than later.

▪️Good paint, like HGTV Home® by Sherwin-Williams’s Infinity Paint & Primer, creates a smooth finish—the higher the paint quality, the more pigment particles are packed together—but it’s not the only thing that will give your paint job longevity. “Painting a wall may seem like a simple task, but there is more to it than just picking up a brush and putting paint on the surface,” says Paige Anderson, an interior designer at Nitido Design in Mumbai.
