“The overall sales result for March was strong relative to last year, but the impact of COVID-19 was certainly evident in the number of sales reported in the second half of March. Uncertainty surrounding the outbreak’s impact on the broader economy and the onset of the necessary social distancing measures resulted in the decline in sales since March 15. Sales figures for April will give us a better sense as to the trajectory of the market while all levels of government take the required action to contain the spread of COVID-19,” said Mr. Collins.

Here’s a little breakdown:

- March sales were up 12.4% from the year before.
- There were 3% more new listings than the previous year.
- The average sale price in the GTA was $902,680

JANUARY MARKET STATS ARE OUT!

“Robust regional economic conditions, strong population growth and low borrowing costs will support increased home sales in 2020. Market conditions will become tighter, as transactions will continue to outpace the growth in available listings. The resulting increase in competition between buyers will likely result in an acceleration in price growth across all major market segments” said Mr. Collins.

Here’s a little breakdown:

- January sales were up 15.4% from the year before.
- There were 17.1% fewer new listings than the previous year.
- The average sale price in the GTA was $839,363
