The Bank of Canada held its overnight policy rate at 2.25% at its September 2 announcement.

The Bank continues to watch inflation, economic growth, energy prices and uncertainty surrounding U.S. trade policy. Its next scheduled interest-rate announcement is October 28, 2026.

The Bank of Canada today held its target for the overnight rate at 2.25%, with the Bank Rate at 2.5% and the deposit rate at 2.20%.

5,995 home sales — down just 0.9% from July 2025
14,484 new listings — down 17.8% year-over-year
Average selling price: $1,003,956 — down 4.5% year-over-year
MLS® HPI Composite Benchmark — down 4.6% year-over-year
On a seasonally adjusted basis, sales increased from June while new listings declined
The most important number this month is not the slight decrease in sales—it is the substantial decline in new listings. With fewer properties coming to market, active buyers are beginning to face more competition. If this continues, it could help stabilize prices during the second half of the year.
