Today, The Bank of Canada made the decision to hold its target for the overnight rate at 2.25%, with the Bank Rate at 2.5% and the deposit rate at 2.20%.
Below are highlights from the BoC's press release as well as the link to the full article.

"The conflict in the Middle East is now in its fourth month. The resulting increases in energy prices and disruptions in global supply chains are weighing on global economic growth and pushing up inflation. At the same time, the US administration continues to propose new tariffs and trade policy uncertainty remains elevated.
.. Canadian financial conditions have loosened since the April Monetary Policy Report. Global equity markets have been buoyant and bond yields remain volatile. The Canadian dollar has weakened against the US dollar and other currencies.

In Canada, GDP edged down by 0.1% in the first quarter, weaker than expected at the time of the April MPR. Consumer spending grew 1.4% but government spending unexpectedly declined. Housing activity also declined and business investment remained weak... [Employment] in Canada is little changed since the start of the year ... continues to fluctuate in the 6 ½%-7% range with the most recent reading at 6.6% in May.

Recent data suggests that growth will resume in the second quarter but, even with some rebound, the economy is expected to remain in excess supply.

As expected, CPI inflation rose in April, reaching 2.8%. The increase reflects energy prices, both higher oil prices and the impact of the elimination of the consumer carbon tax falling out of the 12-month rate of inflation. So far, there has been limited evidence of broad-based pass-through of higher energy prices to other consumer prices. Measures of core inflation have moved down to around 2% and the share of CPI components growing above 3% is close to its historical average. Food price inflation moderated but remains high, and shelter inflation continued to slow. With global oil prices still elevated—roughly $10 a barrel above our April MPR assumptions—total inflation is expected to hover around 3% in the near term before easing gradually towards 2%..."

May 2026's TRREB Market Stats are in! Let's take a look.

Average Selling Price in May 2026 is $1,069,700, increasing from April 2026's Average Selling Price of $1,051,969, a difference of $17,731 on a month-to-month scale. From year-to-year, we see a 4.6% decline in Average Selling Price, however, with May 2025 sitting at $1,120,716, a decrease of $51,016.

May 2026 had more Home Sales, 6,583 Home Sales, as compared to April 2026's count of 5,946 Home Sales, a difference of 637 Home Sales. On a yearly scale we see an increase in Home Sales, with May 2025 at 6,195 Homes Sales, a 6.3% increase year over year, or 388 more Home Sales this year's May than last.

There is a slight increase in homes being listed in May 2026, New Listings at 17,698, as compared to the previous month of April 2026 at 17,097 New Listings, a difference of 601 New Listings on a month-to-month scale. On a yearly scale, however, we see a decline of 18.9% in the number of homes being listed this May 2026 as compared to May 2025 at 21,830, a decrease of 4,132 New Listings.

We see a slight 2% increase on a month to month scale with the Sales to New Listing Ratio for May 2026 at 37% and April 2026 at 35%. We another, larger increase of 9% in the Sales Ratio from May 2025 at 28% to May 2026 on a yearly scale.
