An exciting day on our 1910 heritage home project in Vancouver. After lifting the house, removing the original foundation, excavating to bearing, installing the new Quad-Lock foundation, waterproofing, and drain tile, it was finally time to lower the house onto its brand-new foundation.
A huge thank you to Iman, Dasco Construction, Zebiak Houseraising, J&R Excavation, and everyone involved in making this milestone possible. Teamwork, planning, and precision make projects like this a success.

Twenty-two years ago, I left a secure teaching career—with a steady income, benefits, and a family of eight to support—to take a leap of faith and start Clay Construction. Looking back, one of the greatest rewards isn't just the homes we've built, but the people we've had the privilege to work alongside.
Daniel Preston spent 7 and a half years with Clay Construction as a Site Manager and Project Manager before launching Deer Creek Custom Homes in Calgary. Today, he's building beautiful custom homes and creating his own legacy. Daniel, I'm proud of you and all you've accomplished. We're cheering you on and wishing you continued success.

Water management starts long before the home is finished. At our 1910-character retention project in Vancouver, we installed three separate systems to protect the foundation and manage water effectively. With the area’s high-water table, we added drain tile at the footings, a second drain tile system at the elevated slab level, and a dedicated roof water drainage system to direct water safely away from the home.

We installed peel & stick and backfilled the foundation with 3/4-inch clear crush rock.

Thoughtful planning today helps prevent problems tomorrow.

When should a framing inspection take place? Many assume it happens as soon as the framing is complete, but that is only part of the story.

Mechanical and electrical trades often drill through joists, beams, and structural members during their rough-ins. Before framing inspection can occur, those modifications need to be reviewed and approved to ensure the structural integrity of the home has not been compromised. Once the engineer has signed off, the city framing inspection can proceed.
