Stonewall Announces $40M Quarry District Development

The Town of Stonewall and Manitoba-based Whiteland Real Estate have unveiled plans for a major mixed-use development along Highway 67.

The new development will bring commercial, residential and recreational space to the growing Interlake community.

The project, known as the Quarry District, will transform about 50 acres on the town’s eastern border into a multi-phase campus designed to support living, working and recreation.

Phase One includes a $40-million investment from Whiteland, with construction of roughly 44,000 square feet of commercial space expected to begin as early as spring 2026, said Whiteland company president Satpal Singh Sidhu.

The commercial core, spanning about 15 acres, will be anchored by a new 26,500-square-foot Red River Co-op grocery store as part of a $17.5 million investment.

An additional 31.5 acres will be sold to the town for future municipal use, while the remaining land will support up to 500 mixed-use housing units. The residential component is expected to include housing options for families, professionals and seniors.

“This is a transformative investment in the future of our town,” said Stonewall Mayor Sandra Smith, in a release.

“This investment will not only strengthen our community and enhance quality of life for Stonewall residents, it will enable the infrastructure required for progress on the neighbouring aging-in-place campus.”

The development will also include cost-shared infrastructure upgrades for sewer, water and drainage, along with trail connections and pedestrian-friendly improvements linking the new district to the existing community.

Planning approvals, including rezoning and subdivision applications, are underway.
