Over the years, I’ve learned that helping people is one of life’s greatest privileges. Not everyone values kindness, and sometimes those you’ve supported disappoint you or mistake generosity for weakness.

Even so, I refuse to let someone else’s choices determine the kind of person I become.

I will continue to believe in people, to lend a hand when I can, and to hope for the best. But experience has also taught me that wisdom belongs alongside kindness. Healthy boundaries don’t make us less compassionate—they allow us to keep serving without losing ourselves.

If you’ve ever been hurt after trying to do the right thing, don’t let that harden your heart. Let it sharpen your discernment.
