🔌 EICR Due? Here Are 3 Things to Check Before Your Electrician Arrives! 🔌
An Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) can uncover issues that could lead to a fail. Here are three quick checks you can do beforehand:
📸 1. Are Your Smoke Alarms In Date?
All UK smoke alarms have a replacement date or manufacture date on the back. Most alarms have a lifespan of around 10 years. If they’re out of date, they may no longer provide reliable protection and could be highlighted during an EICR.
📸 2. Is Your Bathroom Light IP Rated?
Bathrooms are special locations due to the presence of water. Light fittings in the correct zones should be suitably IP rated to protect against moisture ingress. A standard pendant fitting, like the one shown, may not be suitable, whereas a sealed IP-rated fitting is often required.
📸 3. Is Everything RCD Protected?
Modern regulations require most circuits to have RCD protection. If your consumer unit has circuits that are not protected by an RCD, this could result in observations on your EICR and may require upgrading.
✅ Checking these simple items before your inspection can help avoid unexpected issues and improve safety in your home.
