We’ve recently started a repair schedule at South Mongers Farm, a Grade II listed property with parts of the house dating back to around 1450.

There’s an abundance of history within the building, including the original barn framework which a local historian discovered was constructed using oak from an old ship.

Our work is fairly small in comparison: some minor structural repairs beneath the chimney, followed by renewing a small but complex area of roof and the leadwork around it.

With a building of this age, we aim to retain as much of the original fabric as possible, only replacing what’s necessary while making sure the roof continues to do its job

A look back at our work at The Ravenswood earlier this year.

We recently returned to carry out repairs elsewhere on the property, which gave Aaron the opportunity to get back up close to this section of roof.

Dating back to around 1630, the existing roof structure had developed a considerable bow over time. The covering was carefully stripped back to expose the original rafters, allowing us to strengthen the roof while retaining as much of the historic structure as possible.

A new dwarf wall and collar ties were introduced within the existing framework, before upgrading the roof beneath the covering to a more modern specification.

The original tiles were relaid and fittings carefully bedded on to a heritage mortar.

A good example of where old and new can work together. Improving what you can’t see, without changing what you can.

Delighted the Old Bakery has won Best Residential Restoration and Conservation at the Sussex Heritage Trust Awards 2026.

Every building has a budget, and every budget deserves the right solution.

Working alongside the bricklaying contractor and the trustees at Jevington Village Hall, we rebuilt the chimney to resolve years of deterioration and water ingress.

While the chimney itself is a permanent repair, the leadwork tying into the roof has been installed as a temporary detail to keep the building protected until a full roof renewal can be carried out.

We don’t believe every problem needs the biggest solution straight away. Sometimes the best approach is finding a solution that works today, while helping clients plan for tomorrow.
