Funeral Arrangements for Barry Sykes

Barry will be returning home on the evening of 16th July at 6:00pm.

On 17th July, the funeral procession will leave his home at 9:30am and proceed to:

The funeral service will commence at 10:00am.

This will be followed by the burial service at 12:00 noon at:

It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of Barry Sykes. Though he has not been at the tables for a bit, he was a longtime member of our Southeast Hold’Em family and touched the lives of many through his friendship and presence. He will be deeply missed.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Barry Sykes, founder of Barry Sykes Enterprises, who passed away peacefully last night at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary at the age of 89, just two months short of his 90th birthday.

Barry was a highly respected businessman, family man, and friend to many. His passing comes only eight months after the loss of his beloved wife, Beverley Sykes, who passed away following a courageous battle with lung cancer.

Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.

Today marks the completion of the full refurbishment of the old Fitz Café, and we’ve officially handed the keys over to the new incoming tenant.

We began this project in January, taking on a unit that had been completely stripped out and left derelict for over two years. Bringing it back to life in such a short space of time has taken a tremendous amount of hard work, determination, and resilience—especially given the difficult circumstances our family has faced following the loss of Beverley Sykes.

The Fitz Café holds deep personal meaning. It was run for many years by Barry Sykes’ mother-in-law—Beverley’s mother—and later by a close family friend who sadly passed away from lung cancer not long before Beverley.

While the old Fitz Café may now be gone, the memories, the history, and everything it stood for will always remain with us.

We were Sent this photo last night. We have seen it before, may have even posted it before but seems suiting to post it today as this is were we are currently working. The Fitz cafe is no more soon to be a Tattoo shop. Lower Fitzwilliam st has changed a lot in the past 50 years. We’re undecided if it’s for the better!
