As students head back to university this autumn, the cost of renting a room remains a major consideration.

London has the highest average student rent in the UK, with students paying around £1,508 per month over the past year.

Reading follows at £982, then Oxford at £871, Cambridge at £826 and Bristol at £799.

Across the UK, students are now paying an average of £1,007 per month towards rent, an increase of 7.9% compared with last year.

📍 With rents continuing to rise, choosing the right location can make a big difference to the cost of student life.

🐶🏡 Renting With Pets Just Got Easier!

Since 1 May 2026, renters in England have had the right to formally ask their landlord if they can keep a pet, and landlords cannot unreasonably refuse.

But surprisingly, very few requests have been made so far. 93% of landlords say they haven’t received a pet request, while 6% have approved one. 🐾

For renters, though, having a pet-friendly home can be a big deal. 34% say it’s essential, while another 24% consider it very or somewhat important.

And perhaps the good news for landlords? Most report no pet-related damage, and when damage does happen, it can actually cost less on average than damage caused by tenants without pets.

Looks like the future of renting could be a little more paw-friendly! 🐕🐈🔑
