Everyone talks about the big things when you move to Australia
But no one warns you that one day you’ll catch yourself saying vacuum instead of hoover, vitamin instead of vitamin, and your kids will come home asking for yogurt.
The funny thing is, I don’t actually think Aussies take the mick out of us half as much as we take the mick out of ourselves.
When you first arrive, especially if you’re working with the public, you start changing the way you say certain words because it’s just easier. People understand you quicker, you don’t have to repeat yourself, and before you know it, you’ve got a whole new vocabulary.
And if you’ve got kids? Forget it. They’ll be correcting you before long!
What was the first word you caught yourself (or your kids) saying differently after moving to Australia?
