Here’s a look at how we work alongside First People Housing. 💙

From Root & Rise allotment to hands-on projects on Bramble and Jonge Jan, we create opportunities for men supported by First People to learn practical skills, contribute and connect with others.

Great to see the people behind the projects in these photos!

Working together. Creating opportunities. 💙

Housing and support provide a foundation. Opportunities to learn, contribute and connect with others can help men take their next steps.

At First People Housing, our work with The Hideout Collective brings these elements together — from practical projects on Bramble and Jonge Jan to getting involved at Root & Rise allotment.

Richard Glennon works within First People as Project Lead for The Hideout Collective, supporting men to develop practical skills and rebuild confidence through hands-on work.

Great to see friendships growing at First People Housing 💙

Some residents also lend a hand with us at Root & Rise allotment and on Bramble and Jonge Jan—helping our projects move forward while getting to know others.

We’re pleased to have them involved. 🥰

Settling into a home can also mean getting to know new people and building friendships.

At First People Housing, some residents now play football weekly, while others help The Hideout Collective at Root & Rise allotment and on boats Bramble and Jonge Jan.

Alongside support towards greater independence, getting involved offers opportunities to meet people, contribute and feel part of a community.

Renovating Bramble – Part 2

Dave and Carl had already been laying Bramble’s new floor, but when parts of it started to rise, the team discovered a shower leak underneath. Sadly, some of the floor had become rotten, so parts of it had to come back up and be replaced.

That meant more prep, more repairs, and starting sections again.

Now Richard and the team are back at it, carefully rebuilding the floor piece by piece, while more flooring is being made at Root & Rise to keep the work moving forward.

Here’s how Bramble’s new floor is looking today.

Follow The Hideout Collective for more updates on Bramble and our other projects.

Renovating Bramble – Part 1

On 1 January 2026, we picked up the keys to Bramble… and that was the start of a pretty huge transformation.

Since then, the team have stripped her back, removed the old lounge area, tackled the kitchen and bathroom, worked on electrics, painting and repairs, and started creating a completely new floor using reclaimed pallet wood.

Clients from First People Housing have also been involved along the way, working alongside the Hideout team and helping bring Bramble back to life.

Things were finally starting to come together…

Then disaster struck. 😬

More in Part 2.

Bramble update

Just when the new parquet floor was starting to come together, a leak revealed damage underneath — which meant part of the floor had to come back up.

Not exactly the update anyone wanted… but the repairs are under way and the flooring is now being laid again.

A setback, yes. Stopping? Absolutely not.

Follow along as Bramble keeps moving forward.

Bramble hit a setback…

The parquet flooring had started to warp, so the team lifted it — and discovered a leak from the shower underneath.

That meant the damaged flooring had to be replaced before work could continue.

Luke, one of the clients from First People Housing, has been helping with the relaying, and if you spot the bricks under the floor, they’re there for a reason — they act as ballast to help with the boat’s weight and stability.

Not quite the update anyone planned, but Bramble is moving forward again.

Stay tuned for the next stage of the transformation.

Still one of our favourite transformations 👀

From reclaimed pallets at Root & Rise to parquet flooring being prepared for Bramble.

Practical skills, teamwork and giving old materials a completely new purpose.

And Bramble’s transformation is far from finished…
