We’re excited to share a little sneak peek at this incredible transformation. Originally a large 1970s home, Oakwood has been completely renovated and extended to create a modern family home that is truly personal to our clients. Having lived across the world, our clients brought with them a wealth of ideas, influences and unique features they wanted to incorporate into their forever home.
From creating the perfect spaces for family time to some of the more personal details, including a custom dog shower in the utility room, every element has been designed around the way this family lives. The scale of the transformation is huge, with structural alterations, a major extension and a complete renovation throughout the home.
But there’s much more to this project than we can fit into one post.
This is just the beginning. We’ll be sharing a lot more from Oakwood soon, including a closer look at the transformation and a conversation with our clients about their experience, the decisions they made and what makes this home so special to them.

This project is a full extension and renovation of an existing Edinburgh bungalow, transforming the property into a spacious family home designed around the way our clients want to live.
By extending and reworking the existing property, we’re creating a home with more space, improved functionality and a layout that works for modern family life.
It’s a great example of what can be achieved by looking at the potential within an existing home and rethinking how the space can work.
From the initial vision through to the construction, every element is being carefully considered to create a home that feels personal, practical and built to last.

𝐓𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧 𝐞𝐱𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐚 𝐰𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐥𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 👷‍♂️

This project is a great example of how we can unlock potential in an existing home by looking beyond the obvious.
We’re transforming the existing basement into a fully liveable space, including digging down to increase the available height, underpinning and carrying out the structural works required to create a comfortable new level of the home.
We’re also extending the property at basement level, creating even more space for the clients and allowing us to introduce a new open-plan kitchen and living area below.
What starts as a basement is becoming an entirely new part of the home, designed around how the clients want to live and use their space.
Projects like this require careful planning, specialist knowledge and close coordination across every stage of the build.
But the end goal is simple: creating more from what is already there. We’re looking forward to sharing more of this transformation as the project progresses.

We’ve recently applied a beautiful rammed earth finish to this Edinburgh extension, creating a contemporary, tactile finish that adds real character to the space.
The natural texture and depth of the material bring something distinctive to the design, complementing the modern architecture while creating a finish that feels considered and timeless.
It’s details like this that can take a project from simply well built to genuinely special.

This project brings together two areas of expertise for IDH: residential construction and commercial development.
We’re extending a traditional country home to create a contemporary events venue, carefully balancing the character and heritage of the existing property with the requirements of a modern commercial space.
The result will be a venue designed for weddings, private events and memorable occasions, with the original home forming an important part of its identity.
A key focus of the design is the relationship between the building and its surroundings. Carefully considered openings and the new extension create a strong indoor-outdoor connection, allowing the landscape to become part of the experience.
It’s an exciting example of how an existing residential property can be thoughtfully adapted to serve a completely new purpose.
From private homes to commercial spaces, the principles remain the same: quality craftsmanship, considered design and a focus on how people will experience and use the space.
The project is still under construction, but completion is getting closer and we’re looking forward to sharing the finished venue.

This project sees us carrying out a full renovation of an Edinburgh New Town basement flat, alongside a single-storey stone extension designed to bring a new sense of space, light and connection to the home. The aim was to modernise the property and create a high-specification space for the clients to enjoy when they come to visit, while maintaining the character that makes Edinburgh’s traditional homes so unique.
A key part of the transformation has been improving the connection between inside and out. The new extension creates a more seamless flow through the home, opening up the living spaces and strengthening the relationship with the outdoor area. Combining traditional materials with a modern approach to layout, finish and functionality, this project is all about creating a home that feels connected, considered and completely tailored to how the clients want to use it.
