Another fantastic day inspiring the next generation!

We recently delivered another Ail A***n outreach workshop at Birchgrove Primary School, helping pupils explore the growing challenge of electronic waste and discover how science and innovation can create more sustainable solutions.

The children learned about the materials hidden inside everyday electronics, why recycling them matters, and even got hands on by recovering silver from our recyclable circuits!

We were thrilled with their enthusiasm, curiosity and brilliant questions throughout the session, and their feedback speaks for itself:

We're proud to share that Ail A***n was awarded the Judges Choice Award at the Wales Start Up Awards!

Winning this award is a fantastic milestone for us and a reflection of the hard work, dedication, and passion of everyone involved in our journey so far.

Our judges had a business they simply couldn't let pass without recognition. Say hello to our 2026 Wales Judges' Choice winner: Ail A***n. 🏆

Printed electronics are everywhere, from biomedical sensors to solar panels, but the industry is squeezed between the soaring cost of silver and tightening environmental rules, with no real recycling stream to recover the valuable materials.

Ail A***n, meaning recycled silver in Welsh, spun out of Swansea University with a patented answer: core-shell silver and ferrite particles that conduct electricity while staying magnetic, so the silver can be pulled back out of waste with magnets and reused. A circular fix for a wasteful problem, built by a female-led technical team in Port Talbot.

An idea the judges couldn't overlook. Ail A***n heads to the national final at Ideas Fest this September. ⛺

We had a great time delivering one of our sustainability workshops in a local school last week.
The students took part in a hands-on experiment where they placed seeded paper circuits in water, extracted the silver ink using a magnet, and then planted the paper into compost.
It’s a simple yet powerful way to explore recycling, electronic waste, and how valuable materials can be recovered and reused in more sustainable ways.
A big thank you to the school for having us, we really enjoyed the session and are looking forward to delivering more workshops like this in other schools.

Sustainability is a big talking point in tech, but are we making progress quickly enough?
Every year, millions of tonnes of electronic waste are produced, yet the focus is still often on performance, cost, and speed.
At Ail A***n, we believe sustainability should be built in from the start, not added on later. That means better materials, designing with recycling in mind, and helping the next generation expect more from technology.
Through our work with schools, we’re already seeing a shift, young people are asking better questions and thinking differently about the impact of technology.
Real change will come when sustainability becomes the standard, not the exception.
