Hazel dormice are hard to spot – not only do they only come out at night, but they are also only found in very few places in the UK.

Hazel dormice hibernate over the winter, but if food is scarce outside of hibernation season, they can save energy by dropping their body temperature and going into a state of 'torpor'. In fact, dormice can spend nearly three-quarters of the year 'asleep' in some form – and are known to snore!

As another week draws to a close, we’d like to say a heartfelt thank you to this week’s guests for choosing to stay with us here at Whitelee. 🏡💚

Well... this is getting a little unprecedented.

What started as a £100,000 match fund has now grown to £800,000.

The response to The Rothbury Estate match appeal has been so inspiring that The Spear Charitable Trust and The Walker Foundation have stepped forward with an additional £200,000 in match funding, joining other generous donors who have already extended the appeal.

Supporters from Northumberland, across the UK and around the world are helping build momentum. Over 27,000 people have donated more than £27 million to secure this extraordinary landscape for wildlife and future generations. We're racing to the finish line to reach the target of £30 million.

Our Buddleia is still putting on a beautiful display, and the butterflies are certainly making the most of it. There’s something lovely about watching them flutter from flower to flower, enjoying the last of the summer blooms.
